Wonderful debate material.

"No government has a right to do merely what it pleases," Alexander Hamilton tweeted in 1791. Mr. Hamilton was last seen spinning in his grave, no doubt tired of doing so since 2009. This is a terrific collection of quotes from people we all know, and some from people whose names I probably heard in high school but failed to remember since I paid more attention to girls than to teachers. My scholastic tendencies aside, I'll phrase my only complaint as a request to the author: more quotes next time! Looking forward to future volumes.

This is an absolutely wonderful little book of priceless quotations from the Revolutionary War era. I will be referring to it often. Love the mini biographies at the end. I highly recommend this piece of American Patriotism! Perfect for school children...a mini history book about the Constitution. Well done!

A wonderful survey of quotes from America's Founding Fathers.

Kudos to Ms. Fielding for her expertise in American History and for gleaning profound quotes from our founding father's published source documents, and original letters. Despite arguments from the left our early patriots had a profound faith in God, understood the reasons behind our 2nd Amendment to the Constitution and the importance of upholding the essence of our form of government.
These patriots would be proud of the selection of quotations used in this small book.

Readers not only have original quotes from the writers and speakers, an excellent biography for each person quoted is included with a bibliography of published document listings and where practicable internet links.

I'm eager to share this series of books with family, friends and especially with my grandkids.

You will not find a diluted, revisionist interpretation of American History in these documents. This should stimulate a love of country and respect for the Constitution that all of our citizens should adhere to and believe in, especially our young people.

Vou fazer este "review" em português porque este livro está em Português, eu o comprei em conjunto com o livro Step by Step Ms Project 2010. Primeiramente li o livro step by step e depois este do Ricardo Vargas. Minha intenção era a de certificar-me e o livro do Ricardo funcionou como um review do Step by Step.

Bem, o livro é direto e cobre bem todos os aspectos necessários e alguns que eu até desconhecia.

Não posso deixar de recomendar porque depois de ler os "DOIS" livros consegui passar na primeira tentativa e com 90% de acerto na prova. Portanto, os dois livros mereceram boas estrelas. O Step By Step é situacional, a todo exemplo existe uma situação em que aquilo poderia ser aplicado. O livro do Ricardo peca neste aspecto e por isso dei 4 estrelas, ficou um pouco parecido com o Help da Microsoft.
É isso, um abraço.

As a Kindle book, not as expected

I bought it as a Kindle book, and I was disapointed that I could not navigate easily between chapters, coming back and forth, as you need with a learning book. I should have remembered that before I bought the book, because that is the only great disadvantage of my Kindle (3 years old).
So, If the newer Kindles also cannot do this, there has to be a warning. I would certainly have bought it then as normal book.
The text is good, well explained, although somewhat short on the subjects, so it is not for beginners. The figures - illustrations - are terrible to see, small and too faded. I hope, only in the E-book edition.

What a hack job.

What a hack job. I should have listened to the other 1-star reviews of this book. We chose this book, along with Sheryl Sandberg's and Colin Powell's books for a book discussion about leadership. I am frankly embarrassed that I chose this book as one of the options. The bulk of the book could have fit on one page but it was the commencement address that was rife with grammatical errors and then the "noteworthy and inspirational" quotes section where almost all of the quotes were repeated, sometimes even on the same page, that made me mad. Needless to say, with this kind of carelessness in writing and lack of depth in content, this will be the last "book" by Steve Gold that I read.

About the Author
David McKee's first book was published in 1964, and he is one of the leading contemporary children's book creators. His books are published in numerous languages throughout the world, and many of them have been adapted for television. He is best known as the creator of everyone's favourite patchwork elephant, Elmer! He now divides his time between London and the South of France.

For America-bashers only!

I was shocked at what I found when reading this book to my daughter, and I think buyers should be fully aware of what they're getting. As another reviewer here notes, the book's "bad guy" is an eagle-like bird painted like an American flag, who bullies all the smaller birds into submission. While there are appropriate places for people to bash countries they don't like, a book for pre-schoolers is very definitely not one of them. Small children can't evaluate policies and make rational judgments about them; this is just an attempt to teach them to hate the U.S.

And, setting that aside, the writing and storytelling are amazingly stilted and awkward for a children's book. This book much more closely resembles efforts I have read from amateurs than the work of an experienced children's book writer. While I've read an older Elmer book to my daughter and found it fine (though a bit cloying), the author has clearly lost it.

Elmer the patchwork elephant has a way of dealing with a bully bird that will delight the reader

Elmer, the patchwork elephant, and several other jungle critters were listening to his cousin, Wilbur as he tried to play his fabulous voice tricks. He could make his voice sound like it was a long, long way off even though he was right next to them. Elmer, a tiger, a crocodile, some bunnies, a lion, and the monkeys in the trees were all listening, but there was something wrong. All the little birds were missing. What could have happened to them? They all loved to listen to Wilbur when he made "his voice come from trees a long way off." Something was wrong, very wrong.

Elmer decided to go looking for them. "Yoo-hoo, birds. where are you?" All of a sudden a little blue bird came out from a cave and sat on the very tip of his trunk. It turned out that all the birdies were hiding from a BIG "nasty bully bird" who had been bothering them. Elmer said that he would talk to him, but no, it wouldn't do any good because that bully bird was just too nasty. He went to see the bully bird to talk to him and ask him not to scare the little ones, but he squawked, "Frighten them? They'll do as I say, or I'll do more than frighten them!" Elmer had an idea, but he needed everyone's help. Would they be able to stop that nasty bully bird or would he keep on bullying the little birds?

Elmer the patchwork elephant has a way of dealing with a bully bird that will delight the reader. Of course Elmer has turned into a classic and classy elephant that children around the world have fallen in love with. He is utterly charming and gentle, something that everyone adores, including the critters around him. Elmer does look a bit different than all the other elephants, but that makes him all the more special. He's very aware that this bully bird has been hurting the others and sends a message to children that bullying is simply not acceptable. The artwork is bright and bold and Elmer's crazy quilt look is especially appealing. If you have not yet made the acquaintance of Elmer, it's about time you did!

BEWARE Book Slants Against America

As a teacher of young children, I have several of the earlier written Elmer books by David McKee and find them colorful and fun. However, this latest book "Elmer and the Big Bird" has a slant against America. The "Big Bully" bird is painted in the symbolic patriotic colors and resembles the American flag and eagle. At one point in the story, the bully bird says "It's Uncle's birthday, I must go." Interesting that the word uncle is capitalized as Uncle, and may even mean "Uncle(Sam)." The "bully bird" is overpowered and called "Coward!" by small birds all flying close together. I am an American citizen and find reason to be disturbed over this book.

God woke me up physically & spiritually

God woke me up at 3:00 a.m. and I turned on my kindle to see the bar land on this book. I began reading it and completed it at 7:00 a.m. Thank you for such a wonderful, faith filled testimony and reminder that God is who He says He is and can do all things! I was so impressed with your faith, your ability to rest in His promises and claim the Word, your commitment to fasting and the beautiful outcome that God worked out for you. This has given me such hope in a certain family situation and with my family's future. God is so faithful and good and your testimony proves that.

Great book. A philosophy staple that I'll pass down to my children like a secular replacement for the bible. Getting books from Amazon seems to be satisfying more than any other product - seems like there's no way of delivering a compromised product when it's been printed and packaged elsewhere.

Clear, succinct, detailed background for Histology

I purchased the Netter's flash cards 2 months ago and wish I had instead purchased the Lange Basic Histology ones the first time around! Now I have 2 stacks of histo flash cards, only one that I can actually use. Although the Netter's histology flash cards are elegantly designed the content on the back of the flash cards is poor and the information is arranged in a manner that is inaccessible, scattered, and incomplete. Netter's gave only a couple of important basics on the back of each flash card and fill the rest in with minute, irrelevant details without providing an adequate foundation. I spent a lot of money on them, but have not been able to use them at all to study. I had tried, but it never worked out.

Two weeks ago I learned about these Lange Basic Histology flash cards and found them to be almost exactly what I was looking for. The cards are concise and very high yield. Each card has diagrams and/or pictures of micrographs of light microscopy AND electron microscopy which I found very helpful. I found Lange to have more photos (so they capture the real thing) than Netter's, which has tons of illustrations. Moreover, the back of each slide gives an overview of all the basic, important concepts you need to know for that particular topic AND presents clinically relevant information. For me, these slides were designed exactly the way I wanted to design my own study sheets and flashcards: a representative micrograph of light and EM microscopy and/or diagrams on one slide, and all the foundational information (not just 2 concepts + trivial matters) PLUS clinical relevance on the other.

Critiques: a.) These cards have great content, but could be more chic. I personally would have really liked that, but I'm an artist so more critical of that than other people. Netter's is certainly flashier. b.) I wish there were more clinical information. They don't have less than Netter's does on each card, I just wish they had more.

Bottom Line: Lange flash cards summarize the fundamentals of histology I am needing to know for medical school and do so in a clear, compact version. The EM and light microscopy pictures on each are also great, and some have illustrations, too, which are also great. I am finding these flash cards very helpful.

Actually.....

Reviewer "CB" of the Junqueira Basic Histology Flash Cards, of which I am the author, indicates they contain only "maybe 20 pics out of the 500 cards." Actually there are 200 cards, each with one or more images of a different human tissue or cell (with key features indicated) and a concise written description of the relevant histological information. Doody's Book Reviews, an independent, professional reviewing organization that rates educational products for medical and pre-medical students, said of the Junqueira Basic Histology Flash Cards "This is one of the best flashcard products currently available for medical education" and gave the work a weighted score of 100 out of 100.

Lange Basic Histology Cards - Great on Kindle Fire

I am an Anatomy and Physiology student that struggles with histology. Physical flash cards work well. But, I really like he way these cards work on the Kindle Fire. While you are learning the slides, you can hold the page between the cell and the key. Once you learn them, you can challenge yourself. So far I have just tried this on the Kindle Fire Gen 2 the 7" version. It will probably work even better with my Asus Transformer.

Overall, this is a great way to have your flashcards with you all the time. I can just leave the Kindle on my desk and look over at it between tasks to get ready for my lab final. I have a few weeks to study. I'll try to remember to post an update after the exam.
