A Wake-up Call: America is in danger of losing itself, this is how to save it

Great book - a rallying cry, a call to action. In this Trumpian era, this is a must read. I was particularly fascinated with the way this book hits on the three major issues of our times: IT (or technological progress), Fair (or the fight against inequality) and Sustainable (or defending our planet from pollution and climate change so that our children and grandchildren can enjoy it as we - still, if not for long - do)

It is also a very easy read, nice and short, not your usual academic brick. Don't miss out on it. And I think that if you're American (I'm not) this should act as a wake-up call. You really can't let Trump destroy America's leadership of the world and this book tells you quite clearly how to stop him.

Always Think Unconventionally

And always produce and market unconventional products of superior design and quality. That, in essence, is what this compact, simply-phrased and written book is about. It is essentially an outline of Jobs’s blueprint for his commercial success. It consists of short, unnumbered chapters subtitled with quotations from Jobs applicable to the topic of each chapter. The author distilled lessons Jobs learned, concepts he initiated, and the business tactics he developed from a limited number of in-depth reference sources which he briefly mentions absent a bibliography. Each chapter, brings out something unique about Jobs, and is supported by a limited number of examples. If you want to bypass the long, heavily-detailed books written about Jobs, you might want to consider this book to grasp Jobs’ outlook of his business life quickly.

Too much, too little, need more -- focus

The title is misleading. I searched through every chapter to decipher how to make a profit with passenger, cargo, and/or other areas of air transportation. It covers a tremendous amount of information like aircraft configurations and technical designs. Unfortunately, and all so common, lots of problems given about aviation; but few solutions offered about profit strategies!
Each chapter technically covers an area of air transportation, but even the short chapters are not extensive enough. Only the most fundamental elements are written. There is not enough pertinent information delivered for the reader to absorb a firm understanding about air transportation.
The problem is that this 500 page book covers an awful lot of technical material. He selectively crammed it all into 500 pages. Some important elements are missing. The title of the book should be more concise about which audience the author wanted to attract, and spread all his great information into two brilliantly-written volumes.

Comprehensive Textbook

This book provides a comprehensive coverage of the technical and economic aspects of various facets of air transportation including commercial airlines, charter operations, corporate services and other related businesses such as leasing company operations and fractional ownership. The reader gains insights into the areas where costs can be saved and revenues enhanced. For example, the author presents various strategies to minimize fuel usage and hence improve the bottom line.

The book is well written allowing it to be accessible to people working in various specialties in the air transportation business that have opportunities to learn about economic air transport operations. Among the subjects covered include aircraft maintenance economics, various aircraft financing options enabling managers to evaluate those most beneficial for their business and revenue enhancement strategies. The reader will be pleased to learn that environmental issues are not forgotten.

Overall, a useful and helpful book for managers in the air transportation industry who need to learn how to minimize costs, improve revenue and thus enhance profits.

This book is a good guide with not too deep information about the airline industry. I used it as a reference for my undergrad thesis and was quite happy with the information provided as it allowed me to better understand the airline industry.

Rahul Khanna is a platform architect at Intel Corporation involved in development of energy-efficient algorithms. Over the past 17 years he has worked on server system software technologies, including platform automation, power/thermal optimization techniques, reliability, optimization, and predictive methodologies. He has authored numerous technical papers and book chapters in the areas related to energy optimization, platform wireless interconnects, sensor networks, interconnect reliability, predictive modeling, motion estimation, and security. He holds 27 patents. He is the co-inventor of the Intel IBIST methodology for High-Speed interconnect testing. His research interests include machine learning-based power/thermal optimization algorithms, narrow-channel high-speed wireless interconnects, and information retrieval in dense sensor networks. Rahul is member of IEEE and the recipient of three Intel Achievement Awards for his contributions in areas related to advancements of platform technologies. He is the author of A Vision for Platform Autonomy: Robust Frameworks for Systems.
